Valentine's Day Tea Party

I have been waiting, rather impatiently, to share a very special tea set with you.  A dear online friend sent me a group of four tea cup sets just to be nice.  Nice indeed!

They are Woods Ware by Wood & Sons in England, their English Scenery pattern in "pink".  My very first pink transferware!  Thank YOU!
Each has this darling village on it.

In my preparations for our party, and my excitement of finally using them, I forgot to get photos of the backs, saucer, and marks.  There will just have to be another blog post about them.

This was Little Miss' first tea party with her friends instead of simply being at one of mine. I gave her quite a bit of help, but she is all set to do her own next time.
This was my new vintage cake stand's debut.  I have no idea who the maker is.  It is a good excuse to check out the cake plate book from the library again.

The children know that if they ask first, and treat things nicely, they can use pretty much anything in our cupboards.
These brownie hearts are nice and easy for young people to make.  Simply line the baking dish with greased parchment paper, and cut the hearts out after the brownie cake has cooled.

A bit of melted chocolate or frosting in a bag makes easy lace.
This past Christmas I did not get a chance to make peppermint bark.  It was worth the wait.

This set of cups is very good sized.  Big enough for coffee.  A piece of peppermint bark stirred into a cup of coffee with real cream or half & half is like a fancy coffee drink from the coffee shop.
My Moonstone Berry Bowl never seems to get put away.  I am always pulling it out for something, because it is so lovely.  It shows up very well on a dark cloth.  This is worth remembering.
This lovely Vintage Crochet Lace Edged Damask Towel is destined for the shop, but I could not resist photographing it against the crimson.
I treated myself to a little "valentine" of my own this month.  The tray I use daily for my tea is rather small, and ends up crowded.  I have been wanting a smaller dish to catch my tea bags when I pull them from the pot.  A pretty little rose never entered my thoughts.  In fact I had given up finding the perfect butter pat or crystal salt when I came across this little bud.  I do not think it is that old, but it is by Ardalt.  Now she lives with me!

I did not bring her out for our party, but saved her for today.  Anticipation is sometimes the best part.
Our guests were rather young, and this was their first tea party.   To make them comfortable I only had treats that were not too messy.  Cupcakes with colored sugar are a lot easier to eat and quite festive.  Hubby did not even mind that I raided his red paper liners.

This vintage eyelet table runner is in pretty rough shape.  The lace edge is sound, but she has a few small holes and quite a few stains that just wouldn't come out.  We are perfectly happy to give her a home in our child friendly living room.
It has been quite awhile since my Vintage Fire King Cake Stand has come out into the daylight.  We'll just have to have more parties!

Thank you for sharing our Valentine Tea Party.  I was too busy to get shots of the heart shaped egg salad sandwiches, round window peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and all kinds of other treats and vintage goodies at our place.
We had a lovely visit with new friends the other day, and today I am visiting other Valentine Tea Parties.  Will you join me?

I will be linking up with:

And some vintage fun too!

  6. This is seriously the cutest tea party I've ever seen. You have the best ever vintage pieces (those pink transferware teacups are wonderful), and the treats look both adorable and tasty. I was a tomboy when I was little, but I would have begged to be invited to this tea party!

  8. What a wonderful friend you have to send you such a beautiful gift of gorgeous teacups! Your tea party looks like it was a hit! love the vintage cake stands as well and that little rose dish is so sweet! I agree with you, I let Lia (the princess) use my china and what nots as long as she understands that they are very special. and she does treat them with such respect that is so fun to watch her use them. I figure that she needs to know how to use delicate things and it is my job to teach her. Happy Valentine's Day to you!

  9. Hey Dear!
I pop in here once in awhile (not often enough, apparently!) and I enjoy looking at your pretty settings and yummy labors... if I wrote a blog, I guess I'd be describing the new gerbil tank and the rather traumatic scene that led to the need for another gerbil tank. I did make some truffles today, though, and even had Valentine papers to put them in! Love you! Kathy B.

  10. I have always liked English Scenery. I started collecting it in the polychrome brown for a while. I love that each of the pieces have different scenes and the border is so pretty! I just got 12 dinner plates in pink/red for my shop. Your tea setting is so pretty. I usually make a peppermint/chocolate candy at Christmas, especially for one of my sons, and this year I didn't get to do it but I purchased all the ingredients. I think, after seeing your peppermint bark, I'm gong to have to make our peppermint candy. I'm sort of craving it now! LOVE the little leaf shaped dish! That's precious.

    Thanks for sharing!
