Let's Talk Fruits and Veggies

Quite a few people online and here at home have asked some really great questions about our Embroidered Fruit and Veggie Quilt for Japan Project. Instead of waiting until all of the details were ironed out, I started sharing about the project right away. Seeing the need in Japan inspired me to do something NOW, knowing the rest will work out. The nature of embroidery means that it takes awhile, so I knew there was time to get everything straight. Keep stitching and asking questions, and we'll end up with a beautiful quilt!
Silly me, I was thinking vegetables and fruits when I shared about the Embroidered Quilt for Japan Project, but I forgot to actually put the word "fruits" in. Let's do veggies AND fruits for our quilt project.

There is no deadline yet, but I am thinking that a month sounds good.
The plan is for a smaller quilt or two. Veggies are more apt to be wanted in living rooms and public areas instead of bedrooms. What do you think?
Auction or raffle? There are rules for these sorts of things. Which would be easiest? Inquiring minds want to know.
If you find that printing a pattern in the correct size to be a challenge, for whatever reason, I would be happy to do it for you. Simply go to MMambr's Fruits and Veggies Set pick out a pattern, and email me at momwaldsplace@gmail.com with the link and your mailing address. If there is one at a different location on flickr simply do it the same way.
If you are in the southern Wisconsin area, or do not mind mailing a larger package, donations of batting and backing are welcome. If you are around here it is a good excuse to get together. We may even have to have a quilting bee!
Did you notice this wonderful vintage sugar bowl? It belongs to a young friend of mine who inherited it from her grandmother. I told her that I would try to identify it for her. It has me stumped. If you have a clue about it, could you please share with me. Thanks!

  2. Wow. I was looking up something else in "Solid Colored Dinnerware: Depression to Mid Century," by Mark Gonzalez, when I saw exactly this sugar bowl! It's Universal Potteries' Ballerina line (the page in the book I cited is 157).

  5. I would love to embroider something for this project. But as I'm living in Belgium, I'm using the metric system. Can you give me the size of the block to embroider in centimeters? I can look it up also, I guess, but is there a difference between American and European inches? Stupid question, I know...
